Matter and Its States Guide
Matter is anything that occupies space and has mass. It makes up everything around us and exists in three primary states. Understanding these states is fundamental for science students.
Three States of Matter
1. Solid: Has a fixed shape and fixed volume. Examples include ice, wood, and metals. Solids are not easily compressed, so their volume does not change with pressure.
2. Liquid: Has a fixed volume but no fixed shape. Liquids take the shape of the container they are in, like water or milk.
3. Gas: Has neither fixed shape nor fixed volume. Gases expand to fill any container, such as oxygen or carbon dioxide.
Changes in State & Mixtures
Solids, liquids, and gases can change from one state to another through processes like:
- • Melting: Solid → Liquid
- • Freezing: Liquid → Solid
- • Evaporation/Boiling: Liquid → Gas
- • Condensation: Gas → Liquid
When substances combine physically, they form a Mixture. A Solution is a homogeneous mixture where solute dissolves in a solvent. Water is an example of a Compound (Hydrogen + Oxygen). Separating a solute from a solvent can be done by Filtration.

مادہ وہ چیز ہے جو جگہ گھیرتی ہے اور جس کا وزن ہوتا ہے۔ یہ ہمارے اردگرد کی ہر چیز کو بناتا ہے اور اس کی تین بنیادی حالتیں ہیں۔ سائنس کے طلباء کے لیے ان حالتوں کو سمجھنا بنیادی اہمیت کا حامل ہے۔
مادے کی تین حالتیں
1. ٹھوس (Solid): اس کی شکل اور حجم دونوں مقرر ہوتے ہیں۔ مثالیں: برف، لکڑی، دھاتیں۔ ٹھوس کو آسانی سے دبایا نہیں جا سکتا۔
2. مائع (Liquid): اس کا حجم مقرر ہوتا ہے لیکن شکل نہیں۔ مائع برتن کی شکل اختیار کرتا ہے، جیسے پانی یا دودھ۔
3. گیس (Gas): اس کی نہ شکل مقرر ہوتی ہے نہ حجم۔ گیس برتن کو بھر لیتی ہے، جیسے آکسیجن یا کاربن ڈائی آکسائیڈ۔
حالتوں میں تبدیلی اور آمیزے
مادہ گرم یا ٹھنڈا کرنے سے ایک حالت سے دوسری حالت میں بدل سکتا ہے:
- • پگھلنا (Melting): ٹھوس → مائع
- • جمنا (Freezing): مائع → ٹھوس
- • بخارات/ابلنا (Evaporation): مائع → گیس
- • تراکم (Condensation): گیس → مائع
جب مختلف مادے طبعی طور پر ملتے ہیں تو وہ آمیزہ (Mixture) بناتے ہیں۔ محلول (Solution) ایک یکساں آمیزہ ہے۔ پانی ایک مرکب (Compound) ہے۔ محلول سے حل شدہ مادہ الگ کرنے کے لیے فلٹریشن (Filtration) کا عمل استعمال ہوتا ہے۔
